Management institutes to corporate houses - a shift in attitude and outlook

The article intends to emphasize on the process of change in behavior, attitude and outlook of the fresh minds who graduate out of professional courses especially MBA.

I would like to name this shift towards profession from academia as a ‘shift from dreams to reality’

When I was a student in a management institution where only infrastructure was good and nothing else, I saw many outstanding dreams and dreamers in my first year of the MBA course. However, when the same students opts for their specialization (with passion or through any other judgments) in the second and the final year of their curriculum I noticed increased attachment towards their chosen fields. This actually formed the basis for their careers.

When students enroll in to MBA program they come with lot of enthusiasm & the same was apparent as they are the budding management talents. However down the line towards the end of their curriculum students’ level of enthusiasm got reduced and the real sense of market reality took over. As a result, mountain of dreams flattened & the balanced dream started taking a shape towards the end of their academia.

After a little difficult break young and budding corporate enter the business environment with high hopes & unnourished attitude and behavior. Off-course corporate houses are well aware of this as these folks are fresh and their talent needs to be nurtured over a period of time.

With the above case it is important for a corporate organization to know and analyze what goes on the minds of these young talents who in the years to come become a talented professional employees and employers.

As I noticed, initially fresher’s observe every minute factor in the organization and they follow their immediate supervisors as their role models to grow in the organization. At this point, I would rather say it is in the hands of their immediate supervisors to develop attitude and outlook of their fresh subordinate.

Once the new talent feels secure or comfortable and adopted to the new style of living he/she develops group or team etiquettes. It is like any employee who belongs to the particular team would like to show his team’s overall attitude with himself. At this time these young talents are no longer fresh talents but become a professional talent or an expert in their respective areas.

Mean time we should know the fact that, these young people also think of leaving the organization for many reasons. Some of them may leave because of inadaptability or because of growth opportunities elsewhere and a few of them develop in the same organization and those few become a central figure in the organization or at least in their respective deportments.

Some employees because of pressure or their talent think of an entrepreneurship as an option. But a few of them who go through this process will really quit the job to start their own or group businesses.

We have many good examples to prove and uphold the above stage of ‘shift to entrepreneurship’ Namely, Mr. Narayana Murthy current mentor of Infosys, Subroto Bagchi, gardener of Mind tree solutions etc…

Ultimately, a few young talents who go through vigorous thought process and held their nerves till the end will become successful intra-preneurs. We have many instances to support the above sentence.

If the process of dream to reality and finally leading to successful careers need be more effective and agile; there should be a regular interaction between academia & corporate houses regarding current trends, researches etc…

I wish a great journey to all the young talents who aspire to become successful professionals in the corporate world and I hope that the above story helps them all to get an idea of the journey towards excellence which never has an end to it.
